Marigold & Rye

Fresh from the deck oven

Overnight sourdough from our wood-fired oven

A warm, scrappy neighbourhood café and bakery in Halifax’s North End.

Who bakes it

The couple behind the overnight bread

We’re a married couple, and one of us trained as a pastry chef in Montréal. We keep the prices honest and the counter friendly, the way a neighbourhood café should be.

What comes out of the oven

Five things on the counter, made here

Country loaves

Sourdough from the wood-fired deck oven, baked overnight and ready for the morning rush.

Rye

Dark rye from the same overnight bake, so the crumb is ready when you arrive.

Cardamom buns

Sweet, fragrant buns from the overnight bake, sold at the counter.

Seasonal galettes

Made with Annapolis Valley fruit, and the menu shifts as the seasons do.

Coffee, roasted two blocks away

A friend roasts the beans, and every cup is served on oat milk unless you ask for something else.

Regulars and a catering client, in their words

“The sourdough is the reason I take the long way to work. Get the rye if there’s any left.”

Ellie F.

“Best flat white in Halifax and they remember how I take it. That’s a neighbourhood cafe.”

Josh T.

“Catered our office breakfast for thirty. Everything arrived warm and labelled, and the cinnamon buns started an argument.”

Questions about wholesale bread and seating

Quick answers on our wholesale bread and where you can sit with a coffee.

Yes. Our wholesale bread program supplies six restaurants and two grocers, so our overnight loaves may already be on a table near you. Reach out through the contact page to talk about your order.
There are twenty-two seats inside, plus a sunny bench out front when the weather cooperates. It’s a good spot for a slow morning with a cardamom bun.
